Provides direct patient care in the clinical services in health department clinics including STD, refugee, and international travel clinics . Consults and provides medical guidance to public health nurses, as necessary, in areas of immunization, tuberculosis and communicable diseases. Participates in the Infant Development Clinic (IDC) providing for infant examination, evaluation, and recommendations for infant and their families as part of the IDC Team. Provides programmatic support in the areas of School Health and Maternal and Child Health (MCH). Under administrative direction, plans, implements and oversees the health department school health program in conjunction with the school health team for student-related school health services; health promotion; community/population health. Reviews health care plans of students with health concerns to allow them to attend school safely. Serves as policy analyst/advisor in the areas of School Health and MCH, independently plans, manages, and/or evaluates public health program(s), projects, and/or study activities. Participates in the department's efforts to advance health equity and population health.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited school of medicine and possession of a medical degree approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, preferably with a master's degree in public health or a related field.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Licensed at time of appointment to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Valid motor vehicle driver's license at time of appointment and maintained throughout employment.
AED and CPR certification, within 60 days of appointment.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a Child Protective Services Registry, a driving record check, and sanction screening to the satisfaction of the employer. Tuberculosis screening upon hire and annually thereafter. Requires a National Provider Identifier.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working in a public or community health environment. Master's degree in public health is beneficial. Knowledge and experience with School Health and/or Maternal Child Health programs. Ability to provide guidance and interact with employees, external partners, and the public. Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; exceptional interpersonal skills and effectively communicate, both orally and in writing. Medical Board Certification preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Job is generally sedentary in nature. Ability to read data on computer monitor, incumbent must be able to operate keyboard driven equipment. Ability communicate with others and lift up to 15 lbs. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
