Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Department of Human Development and Family Studies is seeking a Lecturer in early childhood education. This person will teach an assessment and curriculum course in the early childhood education – unified teacher licensure program, and will coordinate practicum and student teaching experiences for students in the early childhood education and child, adult, and family services majors.
The individual selected for this position will have knowledge, preparation, and experience teaching young children within the range of birth through third grade. The person should have a current or previous license to teach children birth through third grade, general education and special education; or birth to age 5 AND early childhood special education.
Duties will include teaching a junior level course that prepares students to gather developmental assessment data, plan and implement effective group lessons for preschool aged children. This course also includes teaching students to collect and use Teaching Strategies GOLD assessment data.
Duties related to coordinating practicum include making practicum placements in community childcare programs, ISU Child Development Laboratory School, and area public school districts. The position also includes supervising tracking practicum grades and hours, and meeting with students and cooperating teachers when there are concerns. The position also involves making student teaching placements, and coordinating teacher licensure recommendations. This includes meeting with students, other ISU student teaching coordinators, and school district and Head Start program personnel. Other duties include attending student teaching and teacher education meetings, assigning grades, writing letters of recommendation, and assisting with a student teaching seminar.
Required Education and Experience:
Master's or Doctorate degree in early childhood education, early childhood special education, or related field (e.g., educational leadership, teacher education, etc.).
Current or previous license to teach early childhood education.
Previous teaching experience in early childhood classrooms or home intervention.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Demonstrated experience teaching or supervising field experiences at the college level.
At least 3 years previous teaching experience in early childhood classrooms or home intervention.
Current or previous license to teach children birth through third grade, general education and special education; or birth to age 5 AND early childhood special education
Initial appointment will be on a term basis (1 year term) with a possibility for renewal.
