The Chairperson of the Department of Educator Preparation is a 12-month position that reports to the Dean and serves as the chief administrative and academic leader of the department. The Chairperson will be expected to provide visionary leadership of innovative programs with a strong practitioner-researcher emphasis. In addition to the general oversight of the department, he or she will be responsible for strategic planning; budget development, management and allocation; recruitment and retention of faculty and students; faculty, staff, and student development; management and improvement of curricula; evaluating faculty performance for the allocation of awards; fundraising; interacting with other department and university leaders to represent the goals of the department. The chairperson must implement strategies to increase recruitment, retention, and graduation rates of students in all degree programs.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
The vision of the College of Education is to become a recognized national leader in the advancement of research and practice on equity, access, and advocacy through the preparation of scholars, practitioners, and innovators. The Department of Educator Preparation prepares elementary education teachers with an option for dual licensure in special education at the undergraduate level as well as child development (birth-to-kindergarten) teachers. At the graduate level, the department offers advanced degree programs in elementary education and special education. All of our educator preparation programs are accredited by CAEP and approved by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

Earned doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction or related field and be eligible to be tenured at the rank of full or associate professor level within the Department of Educator Preparation. Demonstrated excellence in leadership and administration, with a minimum of five years experience in an administrative and/or teaching position at the university level.
Candidate must have a strong teaching record at the university level, have evidence of publishing manuscripts in top-tier peer-reviewed journals, have proven experience procuring extramural funding, and have evidence of providing service to the profession, university community, and local community.The candidate must have a demonstrated commitment to student achievement and faculty scholarship. The ideal candidate should have experience teaching online courses in the field of education and have experience with NCATE/CAEP accreditation.
