The Elementary Division Director serves as a lead spokesperson of the school mission and the Elementary School's educational goals and programs, and provides leadership within the division through the supervision, management, and coordination of all academic, operational, and personnel functions. The Elementary Division includes grades 2-5.
Specific responsibilities include the following:
Act as the educational leader of the Elementary School, responsible for its day-to-day operation; to direct the activities of the members of the school’s instructional and non-instructional staff in the performance of their duties.
Function as the chief articulator of the Elementary School’s programs, expectations, behavioral guidelines, and other information necessary to ensure that all constituencies are fully informed consistent with their individual roles.
Foster an environment that is conducive to collaboration, reflection, professional growth, and quality education.
Ensure that students' educational needs are being met; coordinate with each child's team of teachers, support team, and parents.
Observe, supervise, and help evaluate the faculty in the development and implementation of curriculum; to supervise the teaching process, and to review and evaluate the academic programs.
Conduct regular meetings with faculty which will deal both with routine school matters and with the stimulating exchange of ideas on issues of educational/philosophical interest and concern.
Provide for the academic reporting of students; to maintain complete academic records on all students; to oversee the grading and the reporting of standards and methods used by teachers in measuring student achievement, including the supervision of report cards and report card comments.
Collaborate on the development of guidelines for proper student conduct and dress; to maintain student discipline consistent with school policies; to monitor students’ adherence to established school rules; to maintain accurate records of student attendance and citizenship.
Be a visible presence in all areas of the school; to work toward a resolution of all problems - both routine and unique - as they arise; to keep the Head of School informed of the general programs, activities, and problems of the school.
Develop and execute an Elementary School master schedule in collaboration with the Early Childhood and Middle School directors.
Support teachers in matters of classroom management, teaching methods, and general school procedures.
Assist in the admission process for the testing, interviewing, and evaluating of applicants for enrollment.
Support the school and its leadership by being a member of the Administrative Team and fulfilling related duties.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in education, but a relevant advanced degree is strongly preferred. Significant experience with and knowledge of elementary school curriculum and programming is required. Ideal candidates will have strong teaching credentials and an enthusiasm for teaching.
Administrative/supervisory experience is a requisite. Flexibility, organization, ability to work well with different constituencies, effective communication skills, knowledge of child development, and strong leadership qualities are attributes we are seeking.
