Sarah Lawrence College is seeking a new Director for our integrated Master of Science in Education Program beginning August 2019. The Program Director oversees the integrated graduate program, composed of approximately 20 to 30 graduate students in any given year. Some of these students enter the program from the undergraduate college in a 4 + 1 (B.A., M.S. Ed) program. The program offers three New York State certification tracks: Early Childhood Education (birth to 2nd grade), Childhood Education (1st to 6th grade), and a dual certification in Early Childhood and Childhood Education (birth to 6th grade). This position is a tenure-track faculty position at the College. The Program Director works in collaboration with the Provost and Dean of the College and the Dean of Graduate and Professional Studies. Responsibilities include:
Overseeing curriculum development, program reviews, and accreditation processes
Hiring and coordinating Art of Teaching faculty and administrative staff
Managing the program budget, negotiating salaries, and creating contracts
Recruiting and retaining graduate students, including managing the application and review process
Collaborating with other programs and offices at the college, including the Early Childhood Center, the Child Development graduate program, the Child Development Institute, and undergraduate faculty in psychology and other related disciplines
Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with student teaching sites and continuing to evaluate the effectiveness of these placements. Current and expected placements and partnerships include our own Early Childhood Center, Yonkers Public Schools, and other local private and public schools
Overseeing the placement and supervision of students in their student teaching sites, including at our Early Childhood Center in their first year
Teaching both graduate and undergraduate level courses in education
Providing academic advising to students
Developing, managing, and strengthening alumni relationships
Exploring sources of outside funds for the program, including scholarships and grants
The successful candidate will be well versed in progressive educational pedagogy, and will be an active practitioner, teacher, and scholar in the field of education. Having an established teaching practice and administrative experience is highly valued, as is a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
An advanced degree in education is required.
