Summary You have a passion for telling meaningful storytelling that motivates people to engage and take action. The Editorial Specialist is a critical member of the Communications team helping to shape and enhance ZERO TO THREE’s messaging and brand voice through creative, well-written copy across all primary communications channels, including website, email, social media, video scripts, print publications, event presentations, etc. The Editorial Specialist thinks outside of the box to provide new, bold and compelling writing that helps drive results and position ZERO TO THREE as the authoritative voice for the health and well-being of babies and toddlers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Create high-quality and engaging content that people love and compels them to take action
Develop and maintain editorial calendar to prioritize content delivery across all communications channels
Direct the development of core content inventory, as well as implement a strategy to regularly update and revise core content as necessary.
Oversee internal content planning and the development of publications such as the annual report, organizational brochure, briefs, infographics etc.
Works collaboratively with subject matter experts to balance edits for accuracy, engagement and alignment with constituent needs.
Establish editorial guidelines to ensure content adheres to best practices, enhances the user experience and optimized for email, web and social
Conduct research and fact check as needed on a variety of subjects
Manage freelancers to support projects as needed
Provide support for ad hoc writing requests and general editing and proofreading tasks
Ensure all copy adheres to and internal style guide and editing requirements.
Establish and track metrics that help correlate internal communications content to business goals
Performs other duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the department
Essential Skills and Experience
Minimum 5-7 years copywriting and editorial experience, with a preference for experience with not-for-profit or early childhood development organization.
Masterful storyteller. Writes, edits, and proofs written content with keen understanding of target audiences and integration of content across communications platforms
Superior writing skills with experience in writing for digital (email, web, social, video) and print; experience with SEO is a plus.
Equally adept at writing breaking news stories, enterprise and trending stories and traditional long-form features
Demonstrated knowledge of editorial standards and writing styles, including AP and APA style vernacular.
Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively against timelines
Thrives in a fast-paced news like environment and understand the importance of digital first
Encourages and practices critical thinking

Maintains a respectful and accepting approach to others

Education Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in advertising, communications, journalism, creative writing, English, or related field
Physical Requirements While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is frequently required to use finger dexterity as well as sufficient hand dexterity to use a computer keyboard and be capable of reading a computer screen. Also may need to remain seated for long periods of time, have the ability to perform repetitive motions, and hear well enough to detect nuances and receive detailed information. The employee may be required to walk, grasp objects, push or pull objects, bend, squat, reach, stand, or kneel. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision for preparing and analyzing data.
Working Conditions The work conditions described here is representative of those an employee encounters while performing this job. Depending on work location, the incumbent will typically work indoors in a heated and air-conditioned office, with a mixture of natural, incandescent and fluorescent light with low to moderate noise levels or be subject to working conditions conducive to a home office. When travel is expected, the incumbent will be exposed to outside environmental conditions during those times.
