Essential Functions of the position are detailed below, and include any physical requirements below that. 1. Provides individual or group academic counseling for children and youth in grades kindergarten through 12th grade aimed at improving each student's performance in reading and math by alleviating barriers to learning. Counseling is provided in the school setting. 2. Works independently and consistently exercises discretion and sound judgment by engaging students in the academic counseling process and appropriately assesses student needs. Seeks appropriate consultation with school faculty and parents as needed. 3. Assists families of students identified by the school as needing special attention. 4. Maintains up-to-date and accurate client files and databases, as required by agency/programmatic policies and procedures, professional standards, and external requirement of all relevant regulatory, licensing or accrediting bodies in the course of performing job expectations. 5. Assists in providing workshops/training for parents and faculty. 6. Maintains knowledge of developmental issues, Individual Education Plan requirements, and community resources. 7. Evaluates the need for further services, makes appropriate referrals and documents in the client file. 8. Participates in clinical supervision and actively seeks supervision and direction when needed or requested to do so. 9. May provide presentations or training to groups on issues related to child development.

Education and Experience Requirements:
Relevant Education: Preferred: Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling or Psychology Minimum: Master's Degree in Social Service Field
Relevant Experience: Preferred: 3 years experience of working in schools or with children Minimum: 1 year of working with children or in schools
Certification/Licensure: Preferred: LCSW or LCPC Minimum: LSW or LPC
