The Implementation Specialist serves as a project area leader on funded implementation science project(s) at the Frank Porter Graham (FPG) Child Development Institute at UNC-Chapel Hill. The Implementation Specialist: (1)delivers a range of direct implementation supports to community prevention coalitions and child and family-serving agencies to support their effective implementation and scaling of evidence-based prevention and intervention programs; (2)assists with the development of implementation tools, measures, and other resources that may be useful to community and state partners; and (3)engages in implementation research and evaluation.
The position will join The Impact Center at FPG. The mission of The Impact Center at FPG is to catalyze social impact by (1) developing sustained capacity to use and optimize evidence-based prevention and well-being strategies and (2) contributing to implementation science and research. The Impact Center at FPG is a workgroup at FPG that includes implementation specialists, evaluation and improvement specialists, research scientists, and learning design specialists focused on the implementation and scale-up of evidence-based prevention strategies at population and system-wide levels. Guided by this workgroup’s theoretically- and empirically-derived model of core practice components, implementation support is delivered primarily to leaders and teams within community organizations and coalitions. Projects involve close collaboration with state agency, support, and funding partners in North Carolina and South Carolina.
In addition to membership in this FPG work group, the position is also expected to be a member of the community of FPG Investigators. Expectations include productivity in implementation science and research; the development of implementation support resources; guiding systems policies and practices at state, regional, and national levels; engagement in institutional and professional service in areas of relevance to FPG’s mission; and evaluation of professional performance.
Education and Experience:
Experience related to using implementation science and practice frameworks to support implementing communities and organizations to operationalize innovations, develop implementation teams, build infrastructure supports, and develop enabling contexts to support the use of evidence to benefit children, youth, and families. Demonstrated experience in technical assistance, written communication, public speaking and presentation, group facilitation, knowledge of research, and qualitative and quantitative evaluation methodologies. Content knowledge and professional experience in prevention science, particularly using public health approaches. The following skill sets are particularly preferred: (1)the development of collaborative working relationships with leaders and other professionals; (2)formal assessment of individual, team, and/or organizational attitudes, resources, and behaviors; (3)facilitation of diverse professional teams and work groups towards collective goals and actions; (4)the delivery of learning to adults using best practices in the scientific literature; (5)organizational development; (6)systems thinking and conceptualization; (7)supportive behavioral coaching for adults; (8)adaptive leadership; and (9)facilitating groups with a co-facilitator.
