PLAYFULWORDS PROJECT AND COMMUNITY MANAGER , Media Laboratory-Laboratory for Social Machines (LSM) , to assist in creating a research program from the ground-up and implementing it within the Boston community. The Playful Words Project designs, creates, and sustains intentionally small-scale computer-supported community networks for children's early literacy learning. Will help the project meet its goals of improving children's literacy, building innovative learning tools, and expanding the scope of organizational impact; and work with the team to establish and run a pilot program. Responsibilities include managing relationships with partner organizations, families, and volunteer coaches; seeking out new partnerships and conducting informational meetings to build interest; recruiting volunteer coaches and families; working with researchers to design content, implement, and manage logistics related to the function of the program; organizing and implementing trainings/workshops/events for coaches, community partners, and families; and a variety of other duties.
REQUIRED : bachelor's degree (M.A. in literacy/child development-related field preferred); at least three years' project management or similar experience; work experience with children and families; experience working with community partners; ability to work with a diverse group of researchers, software developers, staff, community partners, children, families, and others; desire to help build a program from the ground-up and take part in new, ground-breaking research; and superior interpersonal skills. Seek flexible team player who is comfortable working in a demanding, fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions. Fluency in Spanish; experience with workshop design/implementation; interest in working with researchers to translate research out of the lab and into the field; and a passion for family engagement, children's playful learning, and storytelling preferred.
