GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:• Develops supportive, collaborative working relationships with residential service staff by implementing a teamwork approach.• Conducts developmental assessments of children in the residential services program.• Facilitates individual and/or group counseling services to children who are participants in the program. Will provide minimally 80 hours of service per month.• Together with residential services staff, and parents, develops and implements service plans for each child.• Together with shelter staff and parents, regularly evaluates service plans and makes necessary adjustments.• Coordinates intervention services with shelter staff and other specialists.• Develop and facilitate minimally 6 parenting workshops annually.• Provides in-service and training to residential service staff on child growth and development and on issues specific to working with homeless children.• Models appropriate interactions and problem solving for parents.• Serves as a liaison between parents, shelter staff and community resources, including, the Chicago Public Schools.• Develops comprehensive list of service provides and establishes working relationships with them.• Works to transition children into appropriate child development programs.• Works with residential services staff to transition children who are re-locating to new housing or neighborhoods.• Provides follow-up through home visits and/or telephone calls for up to 6 months after family has re-located.• Provides case management and advocacy services for children and parents.• Maintains record and files and submits reports as directed.• Attend weekly staff meetings, and other trainings as required.• Other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience:
Masters Degree in Child Development or related field with two (2) of applicable experience.
Will consider a Bachelor Degree in Child Development with four (4) or more year’s applicable experience.
Must have 40-hour domestic violence training (within 3 months of hire date).
Must be Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professional (within 1 year of hire date).
Must be CPR/First Aid certified (within 6 months of hire date).
Must have excellent verbal skills.
Must have the ability to communicate effectively to diverse group(s) of people in varied settings.
Must be able to write in a logical, clear and grammatically correct way.
Bi-lingual Spanish speaking, reading and writing may be required.
Must have the ability to read, analyze and interpret common reports and documents.
Must be able to respond to the needs and/or request of clients, co-workers, supervisors and others in a professional and timely manner.
Must have the ability to plan and organize in a logical manner.
Must be able to prioritize and multi-task in an efficient manner.
Must be able to stand and walk up to 2/3 or more of the time.
Must be able to sit up to 1/3 of the time.
Must be able to use hand and/or fingers up to 2/3 or more of the time.
Must be able to lift up to 10lbs up to 1/3 of the time.
Must be able to hear and talk 2/3 or more of the time.
Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 1/3 to 2/3 of the time.
Must be able to reach over shoulders 1/3 to 2/3 of the time.
Must be able to climb stairs up to 2/3 of the time.
Must have clear vision up to 20 inches minimally.
Must be proficient in the use of the computer and various software packages.
Must be able to use standard telephone.
May have to use general office equipment including; fax machine, copier, calculator, typewriter, etc.
Must be able to work in an office setting with moderate to loud noise levels.
May be exposed to outdoor weather conditions 1/3 to 2/3 of the time.
Must be able to travel locally and regionally.

Family Rescue is dedicated to eliminating domestic violence in the Chicago community by providing comprehensive support services and shelter to victims of domestic violence, particularly abused women and their children; engaging in advocacy to promote future system change; and encouraging prevention through community education.
Throughout its 30 plus years of service Family Rescue has opened four programs: the Rosenthal Family Lodge – our emergency shelter and 24-hour crisis line; Community Outreach Program - non residential counseling and violence prevention education; Court Advocacy Program - legal advocacy and crisis intervention; and Ridgeland Apartments & Daycare Program – supportive housing and child care. Family Rescue provides comprehensive services to survivors of domestic violence using a three pronged approach: prevention through early education and outreach; intervention through direct client services such as crisis intervention, enhanced children’s programming, counseling, legal advocacy, emergency shelter, financial literacy and safe housing; and infrastructure strengthening through systemic advocacy to address changes that will enhance the systems families impacted by domestic violence access for safety.
Family Rescue is unique in several ways: we are the only single purpose domestic violence agency on the south side of Chicago; we are one of only two domestic violence agencies in Chicago to allow mothers with teen boys into our shelter to avoid causing more trauma to the mother and children; and we are the only domestic violence agency in Chicago with a presence in both criminal and civil court, AND the Chicago Police Department. The families that Family Rescue serves often need a myriad of services and we have built strong relationships with community partners to be able to provide for their needs in the best possible way.
