The Child Development Supervisor of the Preschool Section maintains a high quality child development program for children ages 3 to 5 that meets the standards of the Chicago Public Schools Community Partnership Program, ExcelRate Gold Circle of Quality, NAEYC Accreditation, and DCFS licensing, and supports the mission of Marillac St. Vincent Family Services.
This position supervises seven (7) classrooms, each of which include a Lead Teacher and two (2) Assistant Teachers. The position reports to the Director of Child Development.
Duties & Responsibilities
Provide direct supervision, coaching, and mentoring to Lead Teachers and Assistant Teachers including: observing daily in the classrooms, assessing the quality of the curricula, modeling appropriate behaviors, resolving conflicts, demonstrating reflective problem-solving and supervision, and providing hands-on assistance, recognition and constructive feedback
Oversee performance management of teaching staff through annual goal-planning process, semi-annual reviews, and progressive discipline as necessary
Plan and adjust staffing schedules, classroom assignments and/or shifts
Ensure compliance with DCFS, NAEYC, and ExceleRate standards
Maintain Chicago Public Schools Community Partnership Program expectations including maintaining current child folders, turning in new and discontinued folders to the CPP office, and completing monthly attendance
Oversee and maintain records of assessments conducted on children in the section including the ASQ, ASQ/SE, ESI-R, and the home language survey
Work with the Family Support Department to support individual children and families, report pertinent information, and develop plans for children with exceptionalities
Establish and maintain relationships with parents through regular communication and parent engagement activities
Administer medication and first aid as necessary
Order supplies, purchase classroom equipment/materials, and monitor budget usage; Ensure regular rotation of materials within classrooms
Coordinate field trips for classrooms including calendar of events, securing fees and transportation arrangements
Maintain clean and safe environments by monitoring the care of classroom and gross-motor room furniture and equipment; Make necessary requisition for repairs and follow up on job completion with Facility and Maintenance Departments
Serve as a substitute early childhood teacher when a staff child ratio warrants, utilizing the opportunity to observe/assess areas needing improvement.
Assist in long-term strategic planning to assess and improve the Section and support Agency-wide goals

Required Skills and Abilities
Proficiency with Creative Curriculum & Teaching Strategies GOLD
Proficiency with child screenings and assessments including the ASQ, ASQ/SE, ESI-R and Pre-IPT
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to communicate and respond in a manner which consistently demonstrates respect, concern, and responsiveness
Ability to remain flexible and adapt to changing needs and priorities
Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize tasks
Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate teams and foster individual staff development
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Education and Work Experience Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or other relevant field; Master's Degree preferred. Type 04 Certification preferred.
Minimum of 3-5 years experience working with preschool-aged children
Minimum of 2 years experience supervising or coaching/mentoring teachers
