York Country Day School seeks a dynamic and dedicated Literacy Specialist for Lower School grades kindergarten through grade five. The selected candidate will join the faculty full-time for the 2018-2019 school year.

The Lower School Literacy Specialist will:
Plan, instruct, and support daily literacy instruction of students in kindergarten through grade five
Lead students and staff in best practice, engaging literacy curriculum, and pedagogy
Partner with teachers to support differentiated instruction to meet the needs of students with diverse learning styles
Organize and maintain data collection for reading assessments across grade levels using multiple sources of data to inform short-and long-term decisions
Collaborate to ensure literacy curriculum follows learning standards and best practices in literacy education
Coach and provide professional development for faculty and staff
The ideal candidate should possess a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and Master's degree as a Reading Specialist or Learning Specialist as well as a minimum of 2 years teaching experience. Candidate should have a commitment to implementing a multimodality approach to reading instruction; training in Wilson, Orton-Gillingham, etc. preferred as well as knowledge and experience with the reading and writing workshop instructional model, understanding of child development and best practices in education, a willingness to keep current through appropriate professional development and a proven ability to work as a member of a team.
