Upstate Medical University is looking for a Child Life Specialist to join their dynamic team of expert professionals. The Child Life Specialist will work closely with members of a multi-disciplinary, pediatrics diabetes team to provide psychosocial, developmental, and emotional interventions to support pediatric patients of all ages receiving outpatient services at the Joslin Diabetes Center. The experienced CCLS will be responsible for promoting effective coping strategies during medical procedures, preparing children and teens for procedures, and will provide a variety of therapeutic and recreational activities. The Child Life Specialist will be responsible for creating and organizing educational and support programs/events for pediatric patients and their families; provide outreach to high risk patients, and patients lost to follow up appointments; collaborate with medical teams on special projects and evaluate effectiveness of current pediatric initiatives and help create new pediatric initiatives.

Bachelor's degree or Master's degree preferred in Child Life, Child Development, Sociology, Psychology or related field and a minimum of two years paid child life experience preferably in a busy outpatient clinic or unit with children with chronic illness required. Current Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) credential required. Experience working with children and adolescents with diabetes or other endocrine diagnoses preferred. Prior experience developing the role and relationship as a CCLS with the medical team a plus. Must be able to work independently in a very fast paced setting and possess excellent communications skills and a professional demeanor.
