The major duties of the Head Start Lead Teacher are to conduct focused observations of children, develop lesson plans, carry out activities on a daily basis that provide experiences which promote individual expression through conversation, play and creativity, evaluate effectiveness of child development activities, ensure the safety and well-being of the children, maintain regular warm & enthusiastic communications with parents, and contribute to the effective operation of the classroom while operating in compliance with licensing and funding standards.
Further, the Lead Teacher needs to be familiar with Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies GOLD, coupled with having a Gateway Registry membership. Lastly, the candidates MUST have required background clearances in order to work at the New Pisgah Day Care Center.
Bachelor Degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education and at
least one year of experience teaching in a full-day program for preschoolers;
or Bachelor Degree (other disciplines) with a minimum of 18 hours in child development.
