<p><strong>Position Overview:</strong></p><p>Preschool Lead Teacher position available at the Shirley G Moore Laboratory School at the University of Minnesota, Institute of Child Development. The Lead Teacher is responsible for the development and implementation of a high quality preschool program that promotes best practices in Early Childhood Education. Assignment for this position is in a morning classroom with children ages 3-5. This is a nine month position at 80% time between August and May. Possible summer hours when available.<br /><br />Applicants for position must have a MA or MEd Early Childhood Education, an Early Childhood teaching license, and at least two years of experience in a toddler or preschool classroom.</p><p>Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check and successfully completing Pediatric CPR & First Aid<br /><br /><strong>Duties/Responsibilities:</strong><br /><br />Serving as lead teacher for a morning or an afternoon preschool group (65%)</p><ul><li>Maintain a safe, organized classroom that promotes optimal growth and development of children</li><li>Identify and accommodate the social, emotional, physical and cognitive needs of children in the class</li><li>Observe children and establish a record keeping system on each child’s progress and development</li><li>Respond appropriately to the needs, interests and developmental level of children</li><li>Set positive and appropriate limits and be consistent, humane, positive and effective in implementing them</li><li>Plan, implement and evaluate Lab School curriculum</li><li>Use the Work Sampling System to assess student and program development and goals</li><li>Plan developmentally appropriate activities to meet individual and group goals</li><li>Interact positively with children in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings</li><li>Implement developmentally appropriate practices</li></ul><p><br />Supervision (15%)</p><ul><li>Mentor and supervise student teachers registered for CPSY 5281</li><li>Hold regular one-on-one and group meetings with student teachers to provide guidance and feedback</li><li>Review student teacher lesson plans to ensure developmentally appropriate content</li></ul><p><br />Participating as member of Shirley G. Moore Laboratory School Staff (10%)</p><ul><li>Actively participate in Lab School staff meetings</li><li>Assist with cleaning and organizing shared storage, kitchen, and outdoor spaces</li><li>Support research studies conducted in the classroom and be familiar with all research studies being conducted in the Lab School</li><li>Foster positive relationships with Lab School partner organizations</li><li>Participate in department, staff, University and external professional development opportunities</li><li>Follow the NAEYC code of Ethics</li><li>Work closely with Lab School Director to assist with administrative tasks associated with the lab school</li></ul><p><br />Working with parents to facilitate their children's development (8%)</p><ul><li>Establish a positive relationship with families and communicate with families about their child’s experience at school</li><li>Maintain records on each child’s progress and development</li><li>Conduct home visits in the fall and conferences at least twice per year and other times as needed</li><li>Keep parents informed of group goals and activities</li><li>Establish long and short term goals for individual children</li><li>Participate in parent involvement activities</li><li>Coordinate parent involvement in your classroom</li></ul><p><br />Supporting research studies conducted in your classroom (2%)</p><ul><li>Be familiar with all research studies being conducted in the Lab School.</li><li>Welcome research teams into your classroom and introduce them to children.</li><li>Support researchers to be successful in recruiting children to participate in their studies.</li><li>Answer research related questions from parents.</li><li>Direct research related concerns to the Director.</li></ul>
<p><strong>Required Qualifications:</strong><br />• Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or closely related field.<br />• Hold a valid Minnesota State Early Childhood Teacher Licensure.<br />• At least two years experience working in a toddler or preschool classroom.<br />• A demonstrated commitment or interest in culturally diverse settings; in particular, as it pertains to infants and young children.<br /><br /><strong>Preferred Qualifications:</strong><br />• Experience working with children with special needs/inclusive environments<br />• Experience supervising student teachers<br />• Strong interpersonal skills<br />• Bilingual or multilingual</p>
