Trinitas' Behavioral Health Department is one of the largest and most respected psychiatric programs in New Jersey. The department conducts several hundred thousand patient visits each year. Our specialized services span the full continuum of care and feature a multidisciplinary, culturally competent bi-lingual staff of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses, art therapists, substance abuse counselors and mental health workers. Patients move along the continuum as appropriate, and are often treated by more than one service simultaneously. Due to the strength of our youth services, our department plays a major role in the initiatives mandated by the State Department of Child Behavioral Health. The department accepts referrals from the entire state, though most patients in our programs are from Union and Essex counties, with a significant percentage from Newark and Elizabeth.
Our Child Day Treatment program provides an intensive therapeutic milieu for youth between the ages of 5-17, sometimes 18, under the structure of modification system, which is geared toward promoting positive behavior in the program, at school and at home. We also welcome the participation of community agencies in the treatment planning process. All youth admitted into the Child Day Treatment Programs (including PH-MICA, After-School, and Half-Day) receive the following services:
A Psychiatric Evaluation, Individual & Family Therapy, Skill-Based Psycho-educational Group Therapy, Creative Arts Therapy, Medication Monitoring/Evaluation (If applicable), Substance Abuse Education (if applicable), Urine Screening (if applicable). Lunch is provided and transportation is available for parts of Union County and Essex County. Academic education is provided as approved by the home school district. Treatment plans are developed and regularly evaluated with the family and child/adolescent. The average length of stay is 6-8 weeks.
As a Psychiatrist in our Child Day treatment programyour principal responsibilities include; completion of iIntakes which are required by Medicaid standards to ensure clients meet criteria for admission into program, provide psych evaluations, provide routine consults, provide med management to youth being prescribed medication as part of treatment, work with clinicians on treatment planning and discharge planning, and when necessary evaluate for inpatient admission.
