The basic purpose of this job is to serve as a mathematics curriculum leader and coach, while also supplementing mathematics instruction provided in classes by teaching an additional section of math to help reduce class size within a given grade level or by working with children, either as individuals or in small groups, who have been identified as needing specific mathematic instruction.
Examples of Essential Functions:
Develop instructional program based on identified student needs, which promote the development of social, emotional, cognitive and academic skills.
Challenge or extend classroom lessons for students needing enrichment.
Teach sections of math or co-teach with a homeroom teacher as necessary.
Prepare progress reports, semester report cards, year-end evaluations and administer mathematics tests as needed.
Utilize a variety of teaching methods, materials and equipment that will prove most effective with each student.
Design activities that include instruction, demonstration and “hands on” work time for students to observe, question and explore/investigate.
Prepare and administer homework and/or tests in order to evaluate student’s progress.
Meet with parents/guardians to discuss children’s progress and determine a course of action if needed.
Collect, organize, and share assessment and placement data for Grades 1-5.
Serve as a liaison between the Lower School and the Middle School Math Department.
Support teachers with professional development and curriculum implementation.
Facilitate and lead curriculum growth efforts including the documentation to support vertical alignment and grade level curriculum mapping.
Oversee the use of technology programs used across grade levels in math.
At all times maintain appropriate boundaries between student and adult.
Convey a positive image of The Pegasus School at all times when working with students, parents, employees, and the public.

Required – Employee should have a Bachelor’s degree, possess Elementary (Multiple Subject) teaching credential, Single Subject credential or the like and three years of teaching experience.
Desirable – Master’s degree in the area of child development, early education, Mathematics or the like; five or more years of independent school classroom experience; specialization in Mathematics, specialized math course work, or curriculum development.
Requires knowledge and understanding of mathematical practices, research and methodologies; principles and methods for curriculum and training design; correspondence techniques and English composition, grammar, spelling and punctuation; knowledge of Microsoft Office, database and software applications.Skills required include instructing others on how to do something; monitoring and assessing performance; using training and instructional methods appropriate for the situation; use of standard office equipment including telephones, calculators, copiers and facsimile equipment.Ability to plan, organize and direct activities of students with mathematical difficulties; communicate information clearly both orally and written; analyze assessment data; provide effective coaching and feedback; able to prioritize tasks and communicate effectively with students, parents and other employees.
