Colleges, Housing, and Educational Services (CHES) is a multi-funded organization within the Business and Administrative Services (BAS) division at the University of California (UC) Santa Cruz. CHES provides leadership in the areas of college student life and residential services, housing services, facilities, employee housing and capital planning, dining services, conference services, early education services, the Bay Tree Bookstore, ID card services, and business and financial analysis for these areas. Through these units, educational and developmental programs and services are offered to all members of the campus community including students, faculty, staff, children and external constituents.
The Assistant Teacher and Associate Teacher are the entry level of the Child Development Center series. The Assistant Teacher and Associate Teacher work under the supervision of the Site Supervisor and Director of Early Education Services. The Assistant Teacher and Associate Teacher are responsible for the general supervision and implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum for infants, preschoolers, and school age children; ages 11 months and 12 years. In addition, incumbent may give direction to the Student Teacher's Aides. The incumbent assumes responsibility for the general supervision and safety of all children. In conjunction with the teachers, establish effective communication with families, attend regularly scheduled staff meetings, actively participate as a team member, and participate in professional growth activities.

Possess a minimum of 6 post-secondary units and in process of obtaining a total of 12 postsecondary semester units or equivalent quarter units in early childhood education or child development completed at an accredited or approved college or university. These units must include the core courses, as defined by Title 22 licensing requirements.
Eligibility for a Child Development Permit at the Assistant Teacher or Associate Teacher level on the California State Commission on Teacher Credentialing, permit matrix.
At least six months of work experience in a licensed childcare center or comparable group childcare program dealing with children under five years of age.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of children's developmental needs in social, emotional, cognitive and physical areas.
