Saint Mark’s is an independent, Episcopal coeducational day school in Altadena, California. Founded in 1960, the School serves the needs of approximately 350 Preschool through Sixth grade students from diverse ethnic, racial, religious and economic backgrounds. Preschool Teacher (Non-Exempt Status)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Plans and implements a developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities designed to promote growth and development of the whole child;
Provides a stimulating learning environment where children can develop their unique potential and experience growth;
Identifies and provides for the learning needs of individual children, reaching the range of learners within the classroom;
Communicates effectively with children, parents, and colleagues in a professional and positive manner. Communicates children’s progress clearly and articulately in verbal and written form including student narratives, emails, parent conferences and meetings;
Maintains a neat, clean, comfortable and positive child-oriented classroom atmosphere that complies with Title 22 regulations;
Ensures the health and safety of children through visual supervision at all times and appropriately responds to illnesses and injuries as well as unexpected circumstances;
Demonstrates professionalism through punctuality, collaboration, organization, participation in meetings and staff development opportunities and maintains a respectful attitude in professional relationships;
Participates in Admissions Open House and other school events as necessary;
Keeps current in contemporary and developmentally appropriate pedagogical thinking, strategies and techniques through reading of professional journals and attendance at professional conferences, workshops and courses;
Serves on committees and engages in professional work as necessary;
Supervises and mentors an associate teacher/assistant teacher, working collaboratively to meet the needs of the children;
Maintains and updates teacher web page as required by the division head;
Creates and maintains learning portfolios for each child and classroom documentation boards;
Assumes an equal share of the housekeeping/set-up duties;
Follows guidelines of Emergency Preparedness Plan and takes responsibility for children’s safety in an emergency situation or drill;
Completes required training each year (CPR, first aid, mandatory reporting, etc.);
Other duties as assigned

Must meet Child Development Permit Matrix requirement for preschool teacher with a minimum of 24 ECE units (Bachelor’s degree in child development and experience preferred.)
Job includes some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; hearing, speaking, observing and significant fine finger dexterity. Specific abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Generally, the job requires 15% sitting, 40% walking and 45% standing and the ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds. The job is performed under some temperature variations, a generally hazard free environment and in a clean atmosphere.
Salary: Salary is commensurate with experience.
