Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Staff Nurse for the Department of Pediatrics at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
In accordance with professional nursing standards, skillfully administers total patient care based on the individualized needs of assigned patients and families. Reports to the Division Chief.
Provides ongoing overall and targeted problem-focused assessments both in person and by telephone of the neurological and developmental status of pediatric patients within scope of practice.
Notifies supervisor and/or appropriate physicians/support personnel of changes in a patient's condition/needs in a timely manner.
Assists the patients and families in managing the acute and long term aspects of the patient's neurological/neurodevelopmental condition.
Educates patients, caregivers, and other entities regarding neurological/neurodevelopmental conditions, procedures, therapies, medications, results, and/or treatments.
Coordinates inpatient and community based care including home care services, testing, procedures, infusions, etc.
Documents all care and patient encounters in the EMR, both in-person and telephone encounters.
Obtains prior authorizations and appeals for tests, medications, infusions, and procedures as necessary, and utilizes available online and other resources to prepare letters of medical necessity in line with insurance criteria and current standards of care.
Assists in the preparation of forms and letters such as: seizure action plans, bus protocols, DYFS inquiries, IEP letters, accommodation letters for colleges, schools, employment, military; surgical/dental clearance, FMLA, etc.
Performs ongoing case management and monitoring of patients on specific therapies.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Home Location Campus: Downtown New Brunswick
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) and three to five (3-5) years of experience "highly desired".
Acute inpatient experience of one (1) year or more preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
In-depth knowledge of child development through adulthood required (birth-21 years).
Highly organized with a strong clinical nursing background and excellent interpersonal skills with experience working both collaboratively and independently within scope of practice as part of the pediatric subspecialty team.
Must be able to work simultaneously on multiple projects with constantly shifting priorities, and the ability to multitask in a constantly changing environment.
Must have excellent oral and written business English proficiency communication skills.
Telephone triage skills required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and Electronic Medical Record required, including the ability to type and talk at the same time while navigating a Windows environment.
