For more than a century, Chicago Commons has served as a pillar of support in Chicago’s most vulnerable communities. Our mission is to partner with individuals, families and communities to overcome poverty, discrimination, and isolation. As a neighborhood-focused non-profit, Chicago Commons is committed to improving the well-being of thousands of children, adults, seniors, and families. Chicago Commons’ programs are designed to provide the necessary tools to help strengthen skills and develop self-sufficiency. Specifically, Chicago Commons has zeroed in on the two ends of the life spectrum, early childhood and senior services, because these two populations represent some of the most vulnerable members of our society.
Chicago Commons Early Childhood
Annually, our child care centers provide quality Early Head Start, Head Start, Preschool for All, Prevention Initiative and child care services to more than 1,200 children from birth to 12 years at four year-round schools and a dozen community partner sites. While Chicago Commons’ four child development schools serve Pilsen, Back of the Yards and West Humboldt Park, our community partner sites also provide early education and child care services in communities all over Chicago.
The mission of the Child Development Department is to provide professional child and family services to meet the needs of communities in which fewest resources are available. Our ultimate goal is to foster the success of each child, recognizing the fact that every child has the potential to be powerful and great. Through attainment of this goal, children, families and communities benefit from quality early childhood education and supportive family programming.
