This position will plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities for the children. Incorporate into these plans any suggestions or goals for the children that are developed by any outside providers such as Occupational, Speech, Physical Therapists and the Horizon’s Child and Family Therapists.
This position must meet all the regulations of the NC Division of Child Development, Early Head Start and the policies and procedures of the childcare center on a daily basis. Must comply with the administrative policies of the UNC Horizons Program and the childcare center.
This position will provide supervision of and interaction with the children in care to maintain a safe, healthy and nurturing learning environment. This position will contribute to the maintaining of the child care center’s physical environment by discarding any broken or dangerous toys and informing supervisor of any health/safety hazards of the center’s physical environment or of items that need to be replaced. Comply with policies and Regulations. This position will establish and maintain effective communication with parents. Offer support, advice and encouragement to the parents regarding their child’s goals, accomplishments and overall well-being. This position will conduct parent/teacher conferences to review any adjustment, behavior, progress or other concerns. This position will participate as an active and involved member of the UNC Horizons team as well as the children center team. Regularly attend UNC Horizons staff meetings, trainings, annual conference and other events. Attend and actively participate in all Sunrise Corner specific events, meetings and trainings. Communicate questions and concerns regarding Horizons and/or Sunrise Corner with other team members and supervisors.
Education and Experience:
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Selected candidate must meet the requirements to qualify for a Lead Teacher through the North Carolina Division of Child Development and Early Education and Early Head Start. This candidate should have great communication skills, ability to listen, understand and convey information in oral and written form. Must have the ability to work collaboratively as a member of the team to provide services for the children and their families. Must be able to perform basic housekeeping and assist in meal set-up and feeding. Must have the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with others to encourage and support communication and teamwork.
AA or BA Degree in Early Childhood Education, Infant-Toddler CDA or relevant degree with Infant/ Toddler coursework.
