The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Assistant Professor are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook (http://www.missouristate.edu/provost/facultyhandbook/). The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
Child and Family Development: A doctorate in Human Development, Child Development, Developmental Psychology, Child and Family Studies, or a closely related field is required. Evidence of significant professional experience engaging with young children and their families in schools, child care centers, or community settings is required.
Early Childhood Education: A doctorate in Early Childhood Education, Teaching and Learning or Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in early childhood, or a closely related field is required. A minimum of three years teaching experience in a public school (pre-kindergarten through third grade) in the United States is required. In addition, candidates must hold a teaching certificate for early childhood education. Knowledge of, or previous experience with, a student teacher assessment system is beneficial. All candidates should have evidence of effective university level teaching as well as evidence of accomplishments in research or scholarship (presentations, publications) related to children’s development or early education is required for both positions. (ABD will be considered, with expected completion by start date.)
