Visit: www.svh-mt.org Description Position Summary In this position, the Lead Child Life Specialist serves as an expert in child development, and promotes effective coping through play, preparation, education and self-expression activities to pediatric patients and their families. As the subject matter expert, the child life specialist will be responsible in the development, implementation and oversight of patient and family coping programs, staff development and education, participating in quality improvement and quality assurance activities, integrating evidenced based practices into current policies and procedural guidelines, participating in the care management of pediatric patients and their families, and assisting in the development, data collection and documentation for clinical applications and research. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Leadership Develops a strategic plan for initiating Child Life services and programming throughout the hospital with approval by the director of the Pediatric Service Line. Adjusts strategy as needed as changes occur within the hospital. Leads Child Life services and initiatives throughout the hospital, building the program and the profession and expanding into necessary areas as identified by initial and ongoing strategic planning. Builds strategic relationships. Professional in dealing with others; encourages, builds and sustains alliances. Cooperates with community and civic organization personnel to facilitate group visits and acceptance of donations throughout the year. Promotes teamwork within the department, hospital and community. Presents in-service in areas of expertise to healthcare team members and members of the community. In coordination with the hospital volunteer department, interviews, orients, and supervises volunteers assigned to pediatric areas. Provides educational opportunities for nursing and ancillary staff by planning and implementing programs regarding interactions and interventions with hospitalized children. Serves as a resource to others regarding child development and therapeutic interventions with hospitalized children. Plans and participates in activities to promote Child Life Month that highlight the profession and working with hospitalized children. Support the manager in developing performance improvement plans to support attaining and maintaining expected staff competency; Provide leadership competency assessments and develop in-services or other initiatives supporting growth professionalism, teamwork and supportive coaching and communication skills; Facilitate unit council activities to develop staff skills in developing and implementing process improvement initiatives including evaluation of the efficacy of process changes; Multidisciplinary Care Coordination Assesses patients and families according to the stress potential acuity scale.
