St. Paul’s School, founded in 1849, is a college-preparatory day school in the suburbs of Baltimore, Maryland, with a co-ed Lower School and all-boys’ Middle and Upper Schools. The primary responsibility of this position is to teach 5th grade language arts in the Middle School for approximately five – six weeks as a medical leave substitute. The successful candidate will be a creative and passionate teacher with a strong educational background in writing, grammar, and literature and who is able to make natural and meaningful connections with his/her students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Three fifth grade English sections, homeroom advisor, and other middle school duties. Attends and participates appropriately in full, divisional, and departmental/team faculty meetings.
Instructional: While course content will be pre-planned, it is expected that the teacher will:
Work in conjunction with the Department chair and the teacher, prepare motivating and stimulating lessons that reflect knowledge of the curriculum, child development, and student interests and abilities.
Employ a variety of teaching methods to engage different learning styles and ability levels in the classroom.
Encourage an inclusive classroom that accepts the diverse perspectives and backgrounds of the students and elicits a greater understanding of the world.
Analyze student population to develop lessons and instructional activities.
Demonstrate a desire to meaningfully integrate technology into the classroom.
