We are now hiring for a full-time Para-Professional to join our Midway Children’s Center Team!
Essential Job Functions:
Assists in maintaining the emotional environment of the classroom by: speaking and listening respectfully to all children, comforting children as necessary, setting appropriate limits for children with reasonable consequences, using positive reinforcement that supports the development of children’s self-help skills.
Assists in promoting the cognitive development of the children by: reading to children, playing games with children, assisting them on the computer, using open-ended questions, supporting dramatic play experiences.
Assists in arranging and maintaining the physical environment of the classroom to provide a safe play for children as assigned which can include daily sweeping the floor after breakfast, lunch and snack, sanitizing toys monthly, rotating educational materials as dictated by lesson plans, emptying and sanitizing the water table daily, accompanying and supervising children in the bathroom and removing broken equipment.
Contributes to the planning of lessons with the Head Teacher which are based on developmentally appropriate practice and the goals of individual children’s IEP’s. Implements lesson plans daily as requested.
Assists in building positive and on-going relationships with all parents and specifically with parents of children diagnosed with disabilities.
Takes an active role in observations of children with disabilities or who are being referred for evaluation.
Works specifically with children in all the preschool classrooms who have been identified by CPS as having special needs.
Attends on-going monthly trainings for para-professionals provided by CDHS or other trainings as assigned.
Participates as a team member with other center staff, i.e. communicating information about children, supporting center policies, working as a member of the Direct Service Team.
Accompanies classroom teachers on home visits for children with diagnosed disabilities.
Participates in parent-teacher conferences for diagnosed children. May act as interpreter and provide input regarding children’s progress.
High school diploma
Some college credit with at least 6 hours in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.
