Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Mental Health Specialist III for the Child & Adolescent Services – Children’s Transitional Residence Program at Rutgers, University Behavioral Health Care.
The Mental Health Specialist III provides daily care and supervision to children residing in the Children's Transitional Residence. Participates as a member of a milieu treatment team in carrying out a residential mental health care program and related services to children (ages 5-11 years) at CTR. Demonstrates competence in recognizing the unique needs and behaviors of children.
Assesses children’s (ages 5-11 years) interpersonal behavior and participation and interest in their environment in accordance with established center policies as monitored by supervisor.
Takes initiative in engaging children and families in a tactful manner as observed by supervisor and as indicated by feedback from patients and team members.
Communicates with children and their families in an empathetic and concerned manner.
Formulates and implements intervention that facilitates child well being.
Documents assessments, interventions and interactions with children in accordance with unit policies.
Maintains knowledge of University Behavioral Health Care and unit policies and procedures.
Maintains cooperative working relationship with others.
Meets annual requirements: annual employee health update (to include PPD), all mandatory educational requirements, and provides Accreditation and Standards Department and Human Resources copies of any degree requirements, new licenses or new credentials acquired during the year.
Understands and adheres to Rutgers’ compliance standards as they appear in RBHS’s Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Three (3) years related/relevant experience in mental health/behavioral health/children’s services area or two years of college in a related field.
Employees in the Day School must have 60 college credits in child development education or a related field as required by the Department of Education regulation for substitute teachers.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Employee must be physically active and be on feet most of day. Duties may involve bending and lifting objects up to 25 lbs., running and playing active games with children and adolescents (ages 5-11 years) and driving minivans or other vehicles. Following the completion of training, must be physically capable of safely providing personal restraints to agitated children (ages 5-11 years).
The work environment is crowded and moderately noisy conditions with children and staff moving about.
