For teen parents, Early Advantage Teen Parenting Support offers services to improve the overall health, emotional and physical development of teen parent and child, as well as providing academic supports that enable teens to finish high school and enroll in college.
Provides home-based personal visits twice per month to 24 families.
Plans and implements developmentally appropriate home based activities.
Works jointly with parents to develop home visit and activity plans based on each child’s assessment and identified family needs.
Maintains and preserves a confidential family file.
Schedules and conducts home visits twice per month for each parent and child.
Provides children with group socialization experiences.
Facilitates parent’s active involvement in the home visit by presenting appropriate activities to the parent to present to the child.
Serves as an advocate for Early Advantage families and as a liaison between families, the program, and the larger community.
Collaborates with community partners to link clients with Early Intervention and other services as appropriate.
Participates in on-going training and staff development provided by the Ounce of Prevention, CPS Office of Early Childhood Education, Program Managers, other consultants, workshops and conferences.
Attends regularly scheduled team and agency staff meetings.
Integrates other components, i.e. health, nutrition, mental health, parent involvement and special needs into the home visit.
Implements procedures for the recruitment, enrollment & engagement of eligible families.
Assists in identifying children with special needs and makes the necessary referrals.
Encourages parent participation in literacy activities, group socializations, and other events or trainings.
The employee will contribute with the Agency’s efforts related to prevention and integrated service delivery with other community providers. The employee will be actively involved and knowledgeable of the Agency’s Continuous Quality Improvement Activities.
Employee is expected to support and contribute to inter-system collaboration with other service providers to improve social service delivery systems.
Completes other duties as assigned.
Sensitivity to cultural diversity is required.
Must be able to make home visits to present and prospective and former clients in the clients’ own home.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees or the organization.
Competent in Microsoft Office tools and inputting services in an online database.
May require to work evenings and/or weekends.
The Home Based Parent Educator must demonstrate the ability to establish helping relationships with families of varying educational, experiential and socio-economic backgrounds and handle emergency and crisis situations.
Exercises discretion and independent judgment in executing tasks.
Bachelor’s degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education required.
Obtained a minimum of 9 ECE credits.
Candidate who is bilingual in Spanish/English strongly preferred.
Experience working with young children is required.
Home Based Parent Educators must receive training in education, nutrition, and other topics relevant for the position, and must plan and implement appropriate family/parent educational activities and function as a member of the program team.
Schedule may be flexible and may include some evening and weekends.
Valid Driver’s License and Automobile Insurance.
