Develops and maintains relationships with families and ensures they receive comprehensive services including health and social services, disabilities, early childhood education, and care services, and a range of parent development training opportunities. Works with other Head Start/Early Head Start programs to integrate services into the family setting.
Essential Job Duties
Conduct periodic home visits to build relationships with families, better understand missing resources and needs, and to provide support to families and children.
Enroll pregnant women who are in the first and second trimester of pregnancy and returning families into the program.
Ensure children completes schedule of well-child visits, maintain up-to-date health records, and follow up on identified health conditions; create medical or health needs for families and child as appropriate.
Use research-based parent curriculum to promote parental success in building parent’s knowledge of child development, supporting positive parent-child interactions and relationships, promoting the parent’s role as first teacher and advocate for their child’s education.
Serves as an advocate for families and as a liaison between families, Head Start/Early Head Start programs, and the large community.
Coordinate home visits and document all services and development plans in the family files to ensure proper documentation is maintained for each child and family.
Participate in the evaluation of services and ensure compliance with regulations and funder requirements.
Performs other job-related duties as requested.
Required Qualifications – Required qualifications to effectively perform the job. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. (Additional requirements may be designated by position.)
Bachelor Degree in Social Work. Master Degree in Social Work is preferred.
Minimum of three to five years of experience working in early childhood/family support or home visiting program.
Within 18 months of hire, at a minimum, a credential (Gateways) or certification in Social Work.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities – May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills and abilities commonly associated with this position.
Knowledgeable of theories and principles of healthy child growth and development.
Experience in creating comprehensive developmental activities for parents and children, program development, and assessing the quality of services.
Working knowledge of community resources, family welfare, and government assistance programs.
Knowledge of community resources and capacity to develop community cooperation to ensure that families receive comprehensive services.
Communicate effectively and function well with families, children, staff and various professional community groups.
Ability to establish supportive relationships with children and families from diverse backgrounds.
Must be able to transport clients in agency vehicles.
Must have strong analytical, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Work Environment – Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
General office conditions. Exposed to moderate noise levels.
