Elon Homes and Schools for Children has a rich and proud heritage in the field of child development and services. We provide safe haven, life skills, and education for children through Community-Based Foster Care, a Foster Care Village, and Kids Central of the Carolinas behavioral and mental health services.
The Development Coordinator is responsible for donor relations and communications, including database management within the Office of Institutional Advancement. This position requires someone who is a team player, has strong organization and time management skills, and is a good communicator and problem-solver. There are opportunities for a motivated self-starter to add increasing responsibilities and opportunities.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Donor Relations (50%)
Enters all gifts and pledges with a high level of accuracy and in a timely manner. Prepares pledge reminders and personalized donor acknowledgments to ensure donors are acknowledged in a timely manner.
Interacts with donors and potential donors through telephone calls, correspondence and in person. Assists in event planning and execution and serves as a liaison to EHSC volunteer groups and community groups.
Analyzes and enhances donor data and makes recommendations for fund development cultivation, communication and solicitation. Conducts prospect research on potential donors as well as current donors, including foundations, corporations and individuals.
Serves as a liaison to the Business Office to ensure reconciliation of monthly and annual fundraising revenue. Generates queries, reports and lists in support of development activities, including weekly and monthly reports to track and analyze fundraising results.
Manages constituent database to ensure data is accurate, complete, and being utilized to support annual and capital campaigns. Maintains the integrity of The Raiser’s Edge through accurate, consistent and routine data audits and database maintenance. As primary user of The Raiser’s Edge, stays abreast of software updates and hardware recommendations.
Assists in the development of fundraising letters, brochures, newsletters and information including interviewing donors and clients, writing and editing articles, and taking photographs and video.
Coordinates direct mail and email campaigns such as direct mail solicitations, printed and e-mailed newsletters, and e-mail campaigns.
Manages Elon’s social media, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Keeps website current and ensures interesting and helpful content is easily available to viewers.
Administrative Support (10%)
Manages relationships with external vendors, such as printers and newsletter vendors.
Responsible for general administrative tasks and helping as needed in greeting visitors, answering phones, and assisting team members.
Demonstrated organizational skills to prioritize and manage multiple projects and complete tasks with a high degree of accuracy and timeliness. Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot issues and arrive at solutions with minimal supervision.
Strong interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and interact diplomatically and effectively with donors, volunteers, administrators, clients, colleagues and vendors.
Strong English language writing skills to produce original fundraising materials, correspondence, reports and other documents using correct grammar, syntax and punctuation. Demonstrated editorial and proofreading skills.
Demonstrated analytical skills to effectively assess processes and make recommendations for improvements over time. Practices high attention to detail.
Understanding of fundraising principles and practices. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience using fundraising and/or CRM databases, particularly The Raiser's Edge.
Working knowledge of social media tools and trends. Working knowledge of email marketing and electronic fundraising tools and trends.
Ability to maintain confidentiality in a donor environment. Expert knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Flexible and willing to perform other tasks as assigned. Ability to work occasional overtime for special events, special projects and/or meetings.
