Clinical Assistant Professor and Director, Fairplex Child Development Center Fieldwork Experience
Job Description Summary:
The University of La Verne's LaFetra College of Education is seeking a full-time, 10-month non-tenure track position in the Undergraduate Child Development Program.
The Child Development program is seeking an innovative, energetic child development professional to work in partnership with the Fairplex Child Development Center Director to establish and sustain quality fieldwork experiences for university students and faculty, mentor supervising teachers in the application of theory to practice, instruct undergraduate students in developmentally appropriate curriculum and practices, and represent La Verne in Fairplex outreach endeavors.

• Teach undergraduate courses and serve as course specialist for fieldwork courses • Work closely with the CDC Director/Assistant Director in matters pertaining to training and mentoring child development center mentor teachers, ensuring ULV educational priorities are met, and work closely with the CDC Director in student, faculty and CDC teacher and staff development. • Schedule student fieldwork hours • Lead orientations for students, parents, and community members • Participate in observations and assessments of children, university students, mentor teachers, and classroom environments • Attend and represent the Fairplex CDC at all University, College and Child Development Program meetings • Relay University, College and Program information to the Fairplex CDC Director as appropriate; Communicate Fairplex CDC information to CD Faculty as appropriate • Participate in regular Fairplex CDC teacher meetings/trainings • Attend monthly Child Development Program/Fairplex CDC coordination meetings • Collaborate with the Director of Student Fieldwork Experience • Maintain hours that are consistent and appropriate for the needs of the Child Development Program and the Fairplex Child Development Center • Work collaboratively with the CDC Director to determine new and exciting programs – including investigating the opportunity to partner on additional summer programming for children and families in the community (additional stipend for summer work) • Work collaboratively with the CDC Director to determine new and exciting programs – including investigating the opportunity to partner on additional summer programming for children and families in the community (additional stipend for summer work)
• Master’s Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education or related field • 5 years experience teaching in a birth – 5 diverse early childhood setting • 2 years experience as a Certified CA Mentor Teacher • 2 years experience teaching academic courses to adults in a college/university or professional development capacity • Excellent written and oral communication skills • Ability to have a flexible work schedule, when needed • Clear fingerprints from DOJ, FBI and Child Abuse Index, clear TB test and current required immunizations
Preferred Qualifications: • California Children’s Center permit • Bilingual: English/Spanish • Experience serving in a mentorship role to early childhood teachers • Experience working with school age children
