The Institute of Child Development at the University of Minnesota seeks an outstanding candidate for a tenure-track position in developmental psychopathology at the Assistant Professor level. We are particularly interested in researchers who (1) study normative and atypical development together in order to understand basic processes that influence pathways of developmental toward or away from pathological outcomes, (2) adopt a multiple levels of analysis approach (including but not limited to crossing behavior with one or preferably more of the following: genetics, epigenetics, neurobiological, relational, or sociocultural); (3) examine gene-environment interplay; and/or (4) conduct theoretically informative translational research via randomized control trials and/or intervention studies. Advanced developmental research methods and/or statistical expertise are especially valued. All applicants are expected to have strong and fundable research programs and to contribute to both graduate and undergraduate supervision and instruction in developmental psychology/developmental psychopathology. A strong developmental orientation to research and teaching is required.
The Institute of Child Development (ICD) has long been a premier center for scholarship, teaching, and outreach in child psychology. Coursework and research activities focus on the cognitive, social, emotional, and psychobiological/neuroscience processes underlying the development of infants, children, and youth. ICD collaborates with the Department of Psychology to offer a specialty track in Developmental Psychopathology and Clinical Science. The University of Minnesota is rich in resources available to ICD faculty, including the Institute for Translational Research in Children’s Mental Health (ITR), with both treatment and research rooms, the Center for Neurobehavioral Development (CNBD), with both low and high density EEG/ERP facilities and complete autonomic laboratory, the Center for Magnetic Resonance Research (CMRR) with three research-dedicated 3T magnets, a Laboratory Preschool housed in the Institute of Child Development, and the many resources afforded in a large metropolitan area. Founded in 1925, the Institute is one of the most established departments for the study of children’s development in the United States. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Research: Developing and maintaining a strong record of scholarship pertinent to the core specialization of the position, while maintaining a commitment to securing external funds to support the individual’s scholarly inquiry.
Teaching and advisement: Strengthening the existing preparation and further development of undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral students in ICD. Teaching and advising students in the graduate and undergraduate degree programs in the department. Participating in postdoctoral student training and advising.
Community Engagement and Service: Participating in College, University, and other outreach activities, including service on internal committees or task forces, and participation in relevant professional organizations.
The successful candidate will be appointed to a full-time, 9-month tenure-track assistant professorship beginning Fall semester 2018 (start date no later than August 27, 2018). Summer employment is possible but is not guaranteed. Salaries are competitive and commensurate with experience.
An earned doctorate (or its equivalent) in psychology, clinical psychology, developmental psychology, cognitive/affective neuroscience, or a closely related field. Applications from ABD candidates will be considered provided the individual can document that he or she is on track to complete the doctorate by the start date of this position.
Evidence of strong scholarship in the form of publications in peer-reviewed journals and a history of conference presentations, commensurate with the level of experience.
An earned doctorate (or its equivalent) in clinical psychology
Proven record of success in procuring external funding, commensurate with the level of experience.
Evidence of successful teaching and academic program development at the undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral levels, commensurate with the level of experience.
Proven record in advising undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral students, commensurate with the level of experience.
Evidence of community engagement/service activities suitable to a tenure-track position at a major land-grant University, commensurate with the level of experience.
