The Family Support Worker (FSW) provides high quality, culturally sensitive and ethically professional services that address the needs of multi-cultural and multi-ethnic families at the ALIVE! Child Development Center. The FSW supports low income working families and their children enrolled in the ALIVE! Child Development Center. The FSW position is a part of a Family Support Project (FSP), a collaborative project of ALIVE! and other preschools. The FSW reports to the Director of the ALIVE! Child Development Center.
The FSW is responsible for assisting and supporting the ALIVE! Child Development Center’s preschool children and their families to be fully prepared for success in kindergarten and in the wider community. The FSW provides social work and case management services through family needs assessments, coordination and partnership with preschool staff within the early childhood setting, individual and small group therapy for children and families, and referrals to community resources and services. Home visits are a critical component of the FSP, allowing the FSW to witness natural child-family interaction, to identify environmental concerns for children and families, and to help children and families more fully understand the connection between home and school to strengthen that partnership.
Required: Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology or human service field and three to four years of related early childhood care and education experience;
Social work or casework experience required.
Adheres to NASW, NAEYC, ACA or APA code of ethics.
Obtain all pre-service state child care licensing requirements for a VA Quality Rated Child Care Center and NAEYC Accreditation standards.
Possess a valid current United States driver’s license.
Proficient in MS Office programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, as well as email.
Preferred: Master’s degree, license eligible, LCSW, LPC, or LSW or equivalent combination of education and experience required with two years experience with early childhood education.
Certification to administer preschool developmental evaluations (ESI-R).
Bilingual in English and either Spanish or Amharic
Additional Salary Information: FTE 12month/ 40hrs / week Monday-Friday
